WHAT IS PACKRAFTING?

Packrafting is a relatively new sport. A hybrid between backpacking and rafting that allows you to experience unspoilt nature at its finest. A packraft is a light weight inflatable boat that fits into a backpack. Perfect for crossing lakes, rivers and streams as part of a longer route on foot or bike. Whenever your hiking trail gets interrupted by water, simply fill the packraft with air and continue the adventure by packraft.

We welcome mostly couples, small groups of friends, colleagues and single travelers aged 20 to 40. The minimum age for our trails is 18 years old.

Absolutely. You are provided with clear instructions on the route and your gear by one of our rangers and you decide yourself how many breaks you take.

100%. We’ve carefully chosen safe routes and provide you with safety instructions and high-end packrafting gear.

When you get down by the water you easily inflate the packraft with the special inflation bag. You scoop air into the inflation bag, similar to a fat boy air chair, and press the air into the raft. It should take you around 5 to 6 full inflation bags to fully inflate your packraft. After paddling through gorgeous scenery, you get back on land, deflate the packraft, roll it up and put it back in your backpack.

No. What makes our concept so much fun is that you will set out independently with all the equipment you need for a unique adventure. Follow the trail alone, with your partner, friend or a group of your own choice.

Select one of the packs above to start booking your 1, 2 or 3-day adventure. You will be taking through an easy booking system in just a few steps. You can book up to 8 people at a time.

Our packrafts are suitable for 1 person. The packraft is big enough to comfortably fit yourself, your backpack and bike.

You start your day with instructions from one of our rangers in The Dome where we explain the route and your equipment. Then you’re good to go! You go out with just your backpack, including packraft, paddles, food, water and some spare clothes. All your other belongings stay in your tent at basecamp.

You start with a hike or bike ride of a few kilometers. Once you get down by the river you inflate your packraft and continue your trail by water. Make sure to stop in time to enjoy a nice view and a well-deserved lunch. Once back in basecamp you can enjoy a hot shower, dinner and a drink by the campfire.

Of course! Select ‘1-day trail’ to book your packrafting trip for a day.

Packrafting originates from Alaska where packrafts are mostly used to cross large bodies of water in the wilderness during hikes or bike routes.

Bikerafting is a combination of biking and packrafting. You simple strap your bike to your raft when continuing by water. This gives you the ability to travel longer routes. Select the ‘3-day trail’ to enjoy 2 days of packrafting and 1 day of bikerafting.

No, you will be spending the night at our basecamp. We provide your tent including sleeping equipment.

We will send you an extensive packing list before arrival, but here are some essentials:

  • good hiking boots
  • comfortable clothes
  • water shoes
  • swim wear
  • bottle/bag for water
  • flashlight
  • a good mood! 😀

You will carrying just your waterproof backpack including your packraft and paddles (which together weigh about 4.5 kg), your food, water and spare clothes. In total, your backpack will weigh about 6.5 kg.

Whatever you prefer! We make sure your accommodation and packraft equipment is ready to go.

Traveling by car?
Our basecamp is very easily accessible by car. Select your 1, 2 or 3-day trail and book your parking spot at the basecamp.

Traveling by train?
Great! You are doing good for nature. By train you can travel to Heimbach Hausen Bf station. From there it is only a 5-minute walk to our basecamp.

Traveling by airplane?
Our basecamp is about 1 hour’s drive from Keulen-Bonn Airport and Maastricht-Aachen Airport. Need an airport transfer? Then we can recommend a train ride (of about 1 hour and 15 minutes) towards Heimbach Hausen Bf station. Prefer to go by car? Take a taxi or rent a car at the airport.
