To offset the CO2 emissions of our trips, we are working with Greentripper and have chosen a very special project to support, namely the Mai Ndombe REDD+ project. What is Greentripper?
The Mai Ndombe REDD+ project.
One of the climate projects Greentripper supports is the Mai NDombe REDD+ Project in Congo. We chose this impressive project because it plays an important role in protecting the Congo Basin, the second largest intact tropical forest in the world and one of the most biodiverse areas on earth. It is home to bonobos, forest elephants and countless other endangered species. Without action, these forests risk falling prey to large-scale logging and illegal deforestation.
This project, located in western Congo, protects the forest from industrial logging, unsustainable logging and slash-and-burn agriculture. Extensive investment is being made in the surrounding local communities, which are among the least economically developed in the world.
These investments include:
– Education: Construction and renovation of schools
– Health: Access to vaccines and basic healthcare
– Food security: Improving agricultural techniques and sustainable fisheries
Since its launch in 2011, logging in the region has stopped, deforested areas have been restored and biodiversity has increased.

The project is certified by Verra’s VCS program, a globally recognized system for CO2 reduction. This ensures that reduced emissions are accurately measured and verified. In addition, the project meets the Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standards (CCB), which means it contributes to community development and biodiversity in addition to climate benefits.
